Arm and Leg Pain
Are you living with leg and arm pain? Shoulder and hip joints are two of the most frequently used joints in our body and are thus prone to a wide range of injuries. Often people are aware of what causes pain in their arms and legs. Maybe they were involved in a car accident, maybe they overused their joints in an athletic competition over the weekend, or they might have been involved in strenuous exercises that put a strain on their joints.
While all these situations can cause immediate pain, you can be suffering from muscle weakness that causes chronic joint pain. This is when instead of visiting a physician, you should get in touch with a chiropractor.
What Causes Muscle Pain ?
Muscle pain can be caused by an autoimmune injury, overuse of the muscle, stress, neurological and muscle disorder, or as a drug side effect. Some of the common causes of muscle pain include:
- Muscle Injury
Symptoms of muscle injury in the arm or leg can often include pain, bruising, cramping, weakness, or swelling.
Muscle injury can result from:
- Blunt force trauma caused due to an auto accident
- Repetitive motion injury cause by following the same routine. Following the same exercise routine or performing the same job can cause injury to most used body part.
- Muscle strain or soreness due to overstretching of a muscle. This can range from anything including a slight overstretch to complete tear. Accidents, twitching motions, and falls are frequent causes.
- Overuse injury often experienced by athletes competing in sports like wrestling, hockey, boxing, or indulging in track and field events.
- Improper warm-up and cool down. It is important to spend 5 minutes before and after the exercise to focus on stretching muscles. You can perform light-intensity activities like jogging to avoid muscle strain.
Poor posture can also lead to muscle pain or tension. If you are slouching in a chair or wearing high heels for a large amount of time, you can suffer from poor posture.
- Stress and Tension
Muscle tension can also be caused by psychological or physical stress. Sudden stress can cause the muscle to tense up, however, once the stress is relieved, the tension is released. However, if you are experiencing chronic stress, the muscles may constantly remain in a state of tension, leading to headaches and pain.
- Infections
Have you recently been infected with a virus? Respiratory and viral infections such as influenza and colds can cause muscle pain. Some other symptoms may include runny nose, sore throat, cough, and general fatigue.
- Autoimmune diseases
An autoimmune disease can cause the body’s immune system to mistakenly attack its own tissue. If you are living with autoimmune disease, inflammation over time can result in weakened muscles, pain, fatigue, or aches.
- Fibromyalgia
Another common disease that can cause muscle weakness and numbness in arms and legs is the neurological condition called fibromyalgia. Pain from one area may travel to another area in the body. Fibromyalgia affects more women than men. While there is no cure available, physical therapies and medicines can help.

Techniques Used By Chiropractors
Chiropractors often focus on the body as a whole rather than focusing on a single body part. Chiropractors specialize in the spine and its function.
Chiropractors use an array of techniques to help you align your spine without surgery or addictive medications.
High-Tech Laser Treatment
This new technology offers advanced pain relief and expedited healing times through a process known as photobiostimulation. Laser treatment is one of the fastest ways to allow injured tissues to heal at an accelerated rate.
Spinal Decompression
A highly effective, scientific therapy that studies have shown an 86% success rate in treating herniated and degenerative discs with a 4% reoccurrence rate after one year. It is our opinion that surgery should never be considered before this type of treatment is utilized.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high-frequency sound waves to administer into the region of soft-tissue injuries. Ultrasound shoots millions of sound waves into the tissue to penetrate the tissue deep in the body, creating a heat response that increases blood supply, increase oxygen supply and decrease swelling to the area.
Massage Therapy
We have Certified, Licensed Massage Therapists who help treat patients at our clinic. Massage is helpful in overcoming swelling and pooling of fluids at the site of a recent injury or trauma. Massage also enhances circulation, increases metabolism, enhances joint and muscle function, and promotes the healing process.
Electro Muscle Stimulation
This is a special form of the electrical current that is administered at the site of the soft-tissue injury, especially muscles for blocking pain. Its function is to reduce pain, help decrease swelling, promote general muscle tone, increases oxygen and blood supply to the injured areas, and speeds the healing process.
Exercise and Rehabilitation Therapy
Exercise therapy helps break up fibrotic scar tissue and increase the elasticity and strength of the supporting muscles. A program of carefully designed stretches and exercises helps restore better tone and range of motion to the damaged tissues.
Diathermy Therapy
Diathermy is short-wave magnetic energy used to raise the temperature of certain soft tissue below the surface of the skin. It relaxes muscles and connective tissue. It helps to reduce muscle spasms and cramping, dilates blood vessels, stimulates blood flow, and white cell production. Increases metabolism and waste removal and helps adhesions and scar tissue.
